Lara Martelli: Dance and Choreography

Lara Martelli is a versatile dancer, choreographer, movement researcher and teacher with a rich educational and professional background. She graduated in 1995 with a stage dance diploma and a master's in choreography from Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, where she studied under renowned teachers including Pina Bausch. She received several awards early in her career, such as the Folkwang Dance Prize and a dance scholarship from NRW. Lara further expanded her training in Paris with notable figures like Koffi Koko, Yoshi Oida, Mia Frye, Noro Kinomichi, Elsa Wolliaston, exploring theater, dance, and somatic practices. Throughout her career, she has worked as a performer across genres—including dance theater, performance art, and improvisation—with companies like Troubleyn in Belgium and as a soloist at Bremen's dance theater.

She began creating her own works early on, including full-length solos like "for sale" in 2003, and has choreographed numerous performances and projects involving dancers, actors, and youth in Germany and Italy. Lara is also dedicated to teaching movement and body awareness, working as a guest lecturer and instructor across Europe, including at the Berlin University of the Arts and Folkwang University of the Arts, where she currently teaches. Her training includes somatic methods such as Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Yoga, Kinomichi (Noro Aikido), and certifications in Laban-Bartenieff Movement Studies and perceptual pedagogy. She has participated in various residencies and projects, often exploring themes of perception, sensory experience, and the human condition through dance and performance. Overall, Lara Martelli combines extensive performance experience, innovative choreography, and dedicated teaching to explore the expressive and educational potential of movement.
